Fly by Wire Upgrade

Unread post by SeaDawg »

So I currently am running a 2017 Honda BF250 with the standard mechanical shift / throttle controls with cables. Any thought's, ideas, experiences or opinions on upgrading to the Honda IST / Fly by Wire controls?

Most likely dumb questions, but...

Repowering?

Or, did you price the retrofit?

Nah..... I was just wondering if it would be feasible to upgrade. I talked to my guy at Bayside Marine today and it would be an aftermarket product and about $5K to upgrade. No thanks.... I'll just stick with what I have which works fine....

I have a Yamaha 300 with fly by wire controls at the helm. Some day my plans are to add additional throttle controls at the rear helm. I've been pricing out the components for a while, for just the parts I'd need would be about $3,200. includes the DEC throttle, rear and main helm start/run switches and helm selection buttons.

For what it's worth, having fly by wire throttle/gear shifting controls is amazing and worth it my opinion. The ease of going in to and out of gear is flawless.

to be honest I have no idea if It would be feasible or save money in the long run to switch to "Drive by wire", I can say that I have twin IST Honda 250ies and love them. I have owned my boat since 2015 and have the first non-display set of IST motors in the US. One is standard and the other counter rotating. I have them serviced regularly and do not service them myself, although I serviced all my other boats and motors in the past, these cost way to much for me a novice to be fat fingering it inside these babies. Drive by wire is great with the full Garmin package.

Nice to see this topic pop up. I’m going through the same decision process for my on order 210 SR. The 9.9 will be mechanical of course. But I kinda want the F200 to be digital. Waiting to hear back on what the price difference will be.
