under gunnel rod holders

Unread post by patcook@pacbell.net »

I,ve got the 3 pair of the rubber rod holders on each side of the new sea runner under the gunnels. I,m getting ready for my first trip out for salmon tomorrow and I notice the rubber holders are so flexible they won,t come close to holding a standard rod and reel. The tip of the rod might stay in but the reel end just falls right out. Any one else have this problem. It looks like the individual rubber pieces slide out. I,m hoping they have harder rubber replacements.?

Yeah mine aren’t worth a darn either.
I use the shock / bungee cord with a ball to secure the rods in place. It’s not really inconvenient, since they’re only traveling in the holders.

I was just thinking about this last night and how I'm tired of loading up rods and the reel ends fall out.

Anyone know who makes these and more importantly why Hewescraft wastes their money and ours with them?

I ordered a couple sets. We will see how they work and mount up to existing mounts.

I had the boat out on its maiden trip and just thought these rubber rod clips arn,t working . I found these online and had a little burst of energy ( very little) so took the old out and put these in. They are quite firm but wiil bend to form to a larger support. Just took a few minutes. I didn,t change the other end as I think they are ok.

Pat, Did you screw them in or did the slide into the existing base?
