HDS12 Live and connecting secondary cockpit display

Unread post by ronjones » Tue Sep 10, 2019 11:02 am

I have just purchased a Lowrance HDS12 Live. Would like to connect a 'dumb' display to it in the aft cockpit area. I'm told that the HDMI port won't allow it . . . has anybody got a solution? Thanks in advance.

I am in the same exact situation with my Garmin 7619xsv. I tried an IPAD in a waterproof case and works fine through Bluetooth....but the display sucks in the sunlight.... and it won't hold a charge while in use...even if plugged into a usb 12 v charger. Just like Ron, I just need a "dumb" display that will mirror my main MFD... don't want to have to buy another fully functional chartplotter.

I don’t know about the Garmin but the Lowrance can be done via an “Ethernet” connections between the two MFD’s.

you need a Lowrance Backbone and likely a couple of cords to connect from the backbone and the MDF

Hey guys, thanks for your responses. SeaDawg, I read your May'19 post with interest . . . thinking it might be a work around. Thanks for your experience to date. Jeff, I did contact Lowrance tech support (not impressed). I don't want a functioning device back there. I am not a fishing guide but fish a lot with friends and some of them would 'screw around back there' even as a slave HDS. Russell Marine Products are all over YouTube re Lowrance products and say I can make use of the HDMI outlet on the back of the HDS12 Live. The folks I purchased the Lowrance unit say it is not a fully functioning HDMI and can't be used as a mirroring monitor. I guess I'll just give it a try on my bench. I'll let you know.

I understand the “guest” messing w your settings. I don’t know what it is, but everyone is an expert on changing settings, even if they have never been on a boat. Lol

Could you please post some pics of this unit how it sits in your dash? I am really thinking about upgrading to this unit however I was wondering if the 12" would pose an issue for visibility in front of the boat. Im thinking it might obstruct part of my forward looking view on my 180 ProV?
