I watched several more vids today on how to properly mount the transducer to keep the bottom reading while on a plane. It’s back to the original setting and I’m going to either have a shield fabbed or make one myself as shown above. A couple of the vids suggest that no matter how it’s mounted, the Lowrance 3 in 1 transducer will loose the bottom reading when the boats on a plane. In both those vids, the authors suggest installing the smaller high speed transducer, then switching back and forth.

Thanks for all your help. I’ll update after I’ve had a chance to get the boat wet again.

I went ahead and fabbed my own shield for the transducer out of an old aluminum street sign. I intentionally painted it white. It will make it easier to see any fishing line that may get wrapped around it. I may have gone overboard, but there shouldn’t be any spray. Now if I can find some time to give it a test.

I have the Air Mar and, and SECOND IT! I can mark fish at high speed also with no trouble, but it is a big Transducer great for salt water and deep depths.

Had to mount my 3 in 1 a lot lower than recommend to get it to read at speed. All most have the bracket at the boat bottom and transducer fully below the boat. Picking up an Airmar HW-165 soon to replace it. I mostly troll and 3in1 not great for that. Down scan / side scan are neat but I never use them.

I just took my Total Scan off. I never could get it to work well and very seldom used the side scan and it frustrated the hell out of me. I have a skimmer on now and tested it this weekend. I went out to 420' at 25 mph and never lost bottom.
