Good day turned bad

Unread post by CAPTAIN JEFF »

CAPTAIN JEFF here ,on Oct 13 the wife the dog and I were on our way to the South Thompson river up here in BC for some chinook fishing, when at about 5:o4 am after two hours of driving just 14 kms from the boat launch a bull elk decided to jump out of the dark in front of the truck and boat, no chance to brake just lucky it went under the front end and not over the hood, managed to keep the truck and boat on the road ,wife was OK, dog was OK and I am OK, but the elk and the truck were not ,the boat moved 4inches forward on the trailer, thank god for good tie down straps at the back. All and all could have ended a lot worse.Thanking our lucky stars only lost the days fishing, we were back home in Kelowna by 11:30 am. Now just waiting for insurance company to decide if truck is a write off. Hoping for better days ahead, keep your lines wet and tight, CAPTAIN JEFF stuck in port(home).

Dang I hate when that happens.
I hear moose are bad news too.
I just put a 500 pound Deer guard in my Ford f15 for that reason.
I had to replace my suburban last year because a doe decided to land in front of us at 75 mph, no more deer, no more Sububern...
Good to hear you are ok.

Glad you, your wife, and dog are safe. Everything else can be replaced. I've seen what a moose can do to a Prius, believe it or not, it wasn't totaled. The elderly couple drove home from north ID with huge hole in the windshield and a crumpled hood and roof. Clipped the legs, head hit the hood and windshield, body landed on roof, and slid off. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected the car, or occupants, to survive.

I fixed it good as new too. ;)

So true.

Put a deer killer on my wife’s pickup a couple years ago. Caught a doe at 70 in the Malibu last spring. Took a bit of work, need to replace the headlamp assembly’s. Cracked one. Piled up a beautiful mulie a couple weeks ago in the crummie. Had one of those bolt on grill guards. Flexed back and dinged the front corner panel. Without it I would have been dead in the water. Heard someone cut the head off. Was on Facebook...wasting meat. Had to stop for some elk Sunday. Watched a moose Monday.

Like shooter said. If you have the the means, I highly recommend an aftermarket bumper.
