Gas coming out of transom vent

Unread post by RFT »

I notice a real strong gas smell after towing boat. I found a small splash of gas sitting bellow the transom vent and the vent cap was wet with gas. Ive had this boat for years and never had this problem. I did take the vent off while installing my washdown pump but other than that nothing has changed.

Thoughts?

Check the vent hose . Maybe it was kinked or pinched during removal or reinstalling. Possible pressure is building up & pushing fuel out ? 🤔

Seems to me that all of the newer EPA crap is just problematic. Once your warranty is up.....better to just delete all of the BS and have the same standard basic fuel tank vent system that successfully and safely served well for thousands of boats for the last 100 years.

Ron's boat (as well as Pat's and ours) have a cap vent as they pre-date the newer evap system mandated on later models. Am with Bob on first thing to check, especially since Ron didn't have a problem before removing it to install his wash down pump.

Find myself checking, and double checking, lots of things anymore, especially if I get interrupted in the middle of what I'm doing.

Mine a 2004 so no EPA Shi...Crap on it. I'm figuring I just filled it up to full this last time, In all the years I've had the boat I've never done that. If it is still doing it once tank level get lower I will start worrying about it more.

I'll look into that. Seems like there should be one in there any way.

That will cause an overflow, I've done that once or twice - unintentionally of course.
