How “Old” is yur boat?

Unread post by Gotofflucky »

Ok, so been reading a number of posts here and seeing a lot of nice Hewescraft, but many of them are so new, or at least looking it!
I haven’t had my searunner that long, and feel lucky to have found a decent one that I could afford, it’s a 1999, which makes it bout 22 years old. Any other old boats out there? I know there are a lot of variables, I’m trying to get some sense of longevity? There have been lots of changes/improvements over the years…so far beam flotation foam on my boat looks reasonably dry, corrosion appears moderate and expected for a boat that has seen 20 years of salt water.
Any other 20+ boats out there? Hoping there are lots!

Mine is a 1996 21' SeaRunner that I bought brand new in May 1996 with a 2 stroke Yamaha 115 hp on it, when I lived in Kodiak Alaska. I moved to Blythe, CA in 1998 and took the boat with me using it on the lower Colorado River, Sea of Cortez, and out of San Diego. I moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 2002 and shipped the boat over there where I used it for 6 years until I moved to Yuma, Arizona, and shipped the boat over there. In 2014 I completely refurbished the boat, fixed some severe corrosion issues, replaced all the foam, repowered it with a Yamaha 115 hp four-stroke, and I've been using it on the Colorado River and the Sea of Cortez. I'm getting ready to move over to eastern AZ in about 6 months, to a 37 acre property where I'm building a new house near the Dragoon Mountains out of St. David, AZ., and the only good-sized water around is Roosevelt Lake, about 2 hours away. The boat will be going with me, HA!

Nice to see these boats will last when they are well maintained. Elgavilan, sounds like you have a great boat there, and have got lots of use from her…remarkable to have had a boat that long!

Not mine anymore, sold to my brother (he still has it) after we bought our 16 Sportsman but it was our first. IIRC it was a 92 or 93 14' Open Fisherman.

Just bought mine from a buddy. 1993 200 River Runner with a Ford 302 inboard & jet drive. It’s in pretty good shape given the numerous road trips to Valdez, Alaska from the Fairbanks area. 375 miles of rough road both ways. Having a really hard time finding any data on it at all; even a call to the factory didn’t help. Anyone know of a source for Hewes owners manuals?

No Idea sorry, fun boat. There is a tour company up here that does river brakes trips for clients.
There's is an early 80's something with a Chevy 350 and three stage pump.[
One heck of a boat/size]

Welcome aboard!

If the factory couldn't help you you're pretty much on your own finding a manual for a Hewescraft of that vintage.
