Advice on selling my 2017 Ocean Pro

Unread post by Tad »

Bought a beautiful 2017 Ocean Pro that came fully loaded (someone had won it in a sponsored event), however life has made it really hard to get out on the water and this boat should be out fishing.

As someone who has never sold a boat, what are my best options? Do I talk to a shop about selling on consignment? I hate to give up the margin on it. How do I determine a fair price? And would I be better off holding onto it through the winter? I just got it winterized and serviced.

It's a 2017 Ocean Pro with a 2017 Honda 250 hp and 9.9 Honda kicker with remote throttle box on an EZ Loader Trailer. Also has a Raymarine e12 G and Raymarine Radar, 2 Scotty Downriggers and a Scotty Pot Puller and WhoDat Tower with Rod/Net holders, Sharkhide, Hydraulic Steering, Swim Ladder, Electric Trim Tabs, Washdown pump, 42" Sleeper seats w/cut out for commode, LED Courtesy lights, Kicker Shift Bracket, etc....

Under 200 hours total on the boat.

Thanks for any assistance. It's been a fun learning experience and I don't regret it at all. Having a child and my business have just taken up too much time!

Nice vessel.

I wouldn’t consign it.

I was in the market from 17-19. Seemed I could buy a 10 year old boat with 10 year old electronics for 10k less than new. Hewes has a 10 year warranty, for resale. Bare bones on mine. Lifetime warranty. While I was looking, almost every used boat I was looking at sold. If you have time, I’d list it for close to new. To start.

To be honest.... I think you're biggest challenge is that your primary buyer pool in the Northwest for a 220 OP is going to be for a hardtop with the bulkhead. I would definitely advertise this boat on CL in the San Fran Bay Area....

Yeah the wife insisted on canvas top, that was the only thing she wanted. I tried to explain the hardtop benefits, but hey she let me buy the boat! I'll look into listing in CA, that's a good suggestion. I paid 60k before doing some work on it. I think MSRP was 82K with all the upgrades. What do you think would be a fair asking price?

Boy...that's a tough question... What are the hours on the motors! I would probably list it on CL for $65 to $70K just to see if you get any bites. It's actually not the best time of year to sell and folks at the end of the season are looking for deals. Whatever you do, choose a local lake for any test drives so the boat will only get "cleaner" and motors flushed if you demo it. The lake and lake ramps are pretty much dead this time of year. Also, remember that OBO can also mean that you end up getting more than asking if you get multiple interested parties. Best of luck!!

Thanks SeaDawg, yeah was considering holding onto the boat until Spring too. Just paid 1.6 k in servicing and winterization. Hours are under 200 I think, but need to get it back from the service center to verify. Sad I didn't get to enjoy and drive it more....

Appreciate the advice!
