Old Tin Boats

Unread post by D'oh » Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:53 am

Ok, it's been quiet around here lately.

We have all read the Hewes Brothers story as starting Post WWII, Full production some time after that.

In your area, what was the Earliest Aluminum Boat Manufacturer? Many around here say Lund, but Aroliner beats them by Many Years. In the 30's even.

I think that's probably the winner there Bob.... Very cool looking boat. For the west coast, I was thinking that it might have been StarCraft. They were founded in 1903...

I grew up in a 1963 19' Holiday Starcraft, with a 90hp Meteor Johnson. My Uncles. That thing was a Monster on this lake at the time. There were some Duratecs, Alumacrafts, Crestliner, Cadillacs at the time that were older. Even some Wood ones when Wood wasn't Classic.

I remember the Aroliners with the Swirl Marks sanded in and Hard Tops

They looked like a Fish Hook.

I kind of figure Princecraft is now the High End of the Brunswick Aluminum Line. Crestliner welded/Lund riveted/Princecraft welded.

When Lund left Steinbach MB, Manufacturing, the Employee's started Deep Water, almost a Carbon Copy of their lower end boats. Misty River also came out of that area, as does Alumamrine. Which I still own. My first boat purchase was a Misty River, tough tin boat.
