Anyone want to come and shoot Prairie dogs?

Unread post by Shooter »

The Boyz normally does a "gopher" shoot in April, BUT.
The gophers have been going downhill and the weather has been nasty.
This year I trying to see if there is any interest in doing a Pdog shoot end of June.

That sounds like fun. When I lived in Big Timber we did this all the time.

Sorry I did not know that.
Here is what is said.
Is there any Interest in an extended prairie dog hunt in central Montana?
I'm thinking sometime in late June, before the 4th of July.
It could be a camping thing or motel whatever.
I have lots of Public ground pre-scouted and there is a very good chance of a LOT of shooting. That time of year the sun seam never to set so there LONG days of shooting.
Probably involve some walking in the hot sun and a good chance of wind. Little to no services, limited cell service too.
Think about it and let me know.
It would be a "Bait Shop Boyz " thing but anyone could come, bring the kids, cousins, wives. I would strongly recommend leaving the dogs, and cats at home if you can.
99% a centerfire hunt 100 to 800-yard shooting.
BUT bring anything you want and are comfortable shooting.
In the past, I have shot 200/300 shots in a day...

I'm tentatively thinking.
June 25,26,27.
Thurs, Fri, and Sat.
Wednesday could be fly-in day and Sunday could be fly out day,
for the people that fly. I can pick you up and take you back any time of day/night.
I have room for two in my truck for transportation to the shooting grounds.
Depending on where we shoot, we could base it out of a local town, motel, restaurants.
Otherwise, we will base out of Great Falls Mt.
We will have to work out transportation after we see who and how many plan to come if any.
Please, any input would be helpful.

Sounds like fun. If I didn't already have plans I'd consider it.

Shooter, thanks for the invite but going earlier in June. Friends and I have been traveling to Miles City for several years to shoot dogs with the exception of last year as calendars got real busy. Hope to get back to Montana in early June again. The grass isn't as tall then. We lost our spot due to changes in land leases so are looking for more dog towns. It got really addicting with building rifles and shooting farther and farther. My longest kill to date is 1020 yards. Can hardly see the little buggers at that distance. Like you said you can shoot a lot of rounds in the right spot. It is a lot of fun sharing this time with family and friends. Good luck on your hunt!
