Prop for my Pro V 200 splashwell with Yamaha F115

Unread post by Long Tom »

I bought this boat several months ago and am loving it. It's a 2010 model year. My main use for it is fishing and crabbing the bays, and nearshore ocean salmon and bottomfish.

It has a factory white aluminum 3-blade Yamaha prop, 13x19. Since I'm running in salt water (denser) and will almost never be able to run fast anyway on the ocean with this hull I'm considering a re-prop to a 13x17 to get a bit more grunt out of the hole, which could be huge crossing a sporty bar for instance.

To be clear it's "ok" the way it is. I'm just wanting to lower the gearing a bit so to speak. I'm NOT a go-fast guy. I have only run it WOT very briefly, and that will be the norm.

Anyone have experience with a 17-pitch prop on a 20' Hewes with a F115?

A 19" is Too much prop for a 115 on a 20 Pro V Loaded with fishing gear, Kicker, and such I would look at a13x16" 4 Blade

I am guessing your 115 is running 52-5400 RPM at WOT. with the 19".

I run a Yamaha f115 on my 1996 21" SeaRunner with the splashwell. Mine started out with the same prop as you did, the 13.25x19 and it worked OK. After a few years I went to a 13.25x17 stainless steel cupped 3 blade prop and it worked better. I ran that prop for many years. About 2 years ago I picked up a 13.5x15 Turning Point stainless 4 blade prop that had a lot of added cupping with a pronounced lip on the back edge of the prop. I "tuned" that prop by slowly and evenly machining down the back edge (maybe took off 1/8" of that pronounced lip) of the 4 blade until I got it where I wanted it and now it runs great. It actually elevates the stern an inch or so which really helps when running in the lower Colorado River with all the sandbars. It also allows the engine to be run at a higher setting on the engine mount without cavitation which gives a little more speed and better fuel economy when in cruise mode. Now I can run on plane in 1.2 feet of water without touching the bottom.

I agree, that's what I'm running with a 150 on our non-ET ProV and it's almost too much for that.

I run the stock 17 pitch prop on my F115 on a 20ft sportsman. It can make it to 6k rpm on a calm lake day, but I don't push it that hard on the ocean. It has the grunt to push it in ocean conditions, ran 20+ miles out of Charleston for tuna this last August. It only tops out at 40mph, but I wasn't looking for a speed demon.
