New Vessel

Unread post by Suafoyt »

So it's been a long time visiting here. We did the deed at the Van Boat Show. Traded my 2011 18' Searunner and for me, went all in on a 2020 210 ET HT with the bulkhead. 200 Yamaha main and decided to go with the 25 Yamaha high thrust. Can't wait to start rigging it.

Awesome... Congrats on the new ride. Have you picked a color and started the build on it yet? Or is it one they already had on the lot..?

Just curious... what made you decide to go with the 25HT kicker? I see a lot of 9.9's and a few 15's on the Searunners and Ocean Pro's... but haven't seen a 25.

Well done on the new boat and the engine choices. I am also going to go with the new Yamaha T25 high thrust kicker. They put out a higher charge rate than the 9.9, plus they offer more directionability when trolling.

Congratulations and welcome back. I bet the 25 wasn’t much more than the 9.9, respectively. Looking forward to pics of rigging your new 2020.

Congratulations on the upgrade, and now all the fun begins. I sure like having a 200hp on the back of my Sea Runner, and I have been toying with the idea of swapping out my 9.9hp and getting a 25hp.

Its another 50lbs compared to the 9.9hp, but on my 220 its no problem. I thought it would be a better back up to the main if I was way offshore and I needed it to get back as compared to my 9.9.

Give us some feedback on how you like the 25hp when you get things settled in.

Congrats...! I spent three days at the Vancouver boat show going over every option to upgrade my SR210 (after all it's 9 months old already) to something in a 24' but found too many choices. I assume you met Dave the Hewescraft rep there?

Great choice on the 25hp kicker, I love my 9.9HT kicker and I use it a LOT but a slight hp upgrade for the next kicker is certainly on the menu.

The 9.9HT is absolutely fine for trolling at any speed and for getting myself out of a jam (I'll explain that later if anyone's interested) but the real reason to upgrade the kicker is that I love using my boat year round for just putting along at 6kts enjoying the shore because it burns almost no gas. The issue is that if I'm going against a tide I've got to crank up the rpms on the 9.9ht to maintain that 6kts and now it's whining a lot louder than I want to listen to. The 25hp should solve that though.

Yamaha for 2020 at least, only has a HT in the 9.9 or 25. Nothing in between so I decided to go with the 25 as with the 9.9 at the top of Vancouver Island on some days I just don't get enough control and steerage and end up having to go to the main. On our last trip last year it was a bluebird day so we ended going 52 miles ONE WAY to a spot. Always nagged me that if something went wrong it would be nasty coming back on the kicker.
