DIY Trailer tug on the cheep.

Unread post by Shooter »

I have a very tight space to park my two boats SO...
I'm going to make something like this.

I have an old riding mower I'll rob for the tires.

I have a $49 Harbor Freight winch I'll use for the motor.

I replaced the big boat trolling batteries this year and kept the old ones, still in fair shape just would not run the motor all day anymore. The winch has remote forward and reverse.

Use the hitch off the rig to match any trailer.

Very similar to this.

Great project. I too have a tight space to needle my boat into. I’ve already had to fix the cowling on the motor(my spotter needed some lessons, apparently) and I’ve had to replace a taillight lens in my truck. Is that your design?

No just my insperation

So far.

I'm mounting the Winch/ motor very close to the drive axel
so I can take another 9" out of the length.
I'm using an old riding lawnmower for the frame/ wheels.
It makes it 30" wide and 29" long.
I'll put a tongue, like a red wagon, in the back to steer the movable wheels

Looking at your inspiration, I'd say you've got it pretty close to where it would need to be.
