Rail mount for Flag pole

Unread post by kenya »

I'm feeling patriotic and would like to put a flag pole rail mount on my Pro V. Now I would think this would be easy. So I bought one from West Marine. Taylor Made, for railings 1 1/8 to 1 1/4. ( my railing is slightly over an inch ) It was too big. So then I went with 7/8 - 1". Too small.
Evidently I need one that's 1 - 1 1/8". Can anyone recommend a rail mount that is decent quality and fits a boat like mine?
Happy Fourth of July all!

Thanks for the link Shooter. Not the greatest reviews and I think it looks kinda flimsy. Scotty makes everything under the sun that attaches to their rod holders and down rigger mounts. I just bought a manual crab puller made by Scotty. $45. They should make something to accommodate a flag pole!
I'll keep searching...

Might be able to make one of the Scotty rail mounts work, could either open up the 7/8" one or sleeve the 1 1/4". Maybe contact Scotty and tell them what you're trying to do, they might have a solution. 8-)

I'd use the 1 1/8" mount. Go to Ace and for a buck you can get some appropriate diameter clear flex vinyl tubing. Cut to length, slice it and slip it over the railing, then clamp on the rail mount. Not only does this give you a rock solid "grip" that won't rotate..... but it has the added side benefit of eliminating the dissimilar metals galvanic reaction between the stainless and the aluminum.. Also prevents any marring of the rails in case you ever remove or relocate your mount.

Actually I plan to do as Seadawg suggests.
