Honda BF8 trolls at idle to fast

Unread post by CWFollett »

I have a Pro-V-180 ET, with Honda 8 hp , with a 4 blade 10 X 61/2. But it trolls at 1 mph at idle. I wanted to troll down to around .7-.6 mph for trout using grups. To troll slower what should go to smaller dia. and/or lesser pitch ? All the info I have researched is about RPM and speed on the main. I really do not care about top speed or rpm on the trolling motor ! Just at idle wanted to be at .6 -.75 MPH . Never a math major so I am totally confused which way to go to replace the prop. Smaller dia . larger pitch, smaller dia bigger pitch, same dia. less or more pitch or 3 blade. Now if I remember at full WOT it is around 6 mph I think. My selling dealer was not much help ? Giving me a direction to for to a slower speed would be great ? Thanks

Decrease diameter and/or pitch. Have a 9x9x3 on my 8hp which nets me about 1.0mph. Keep in mind that will also increase WOT engine rpm and decrease WOT speed.

I agree with all that Phil says...… and that the main issue for you will be increased RPM at WOT if you decrease pitch. Does your Honda 8 have a rev limiter?
